Note: I think the key is, in step 1, to select a resolution that is Smaller than the native resolution of the near computer's display. This may have gotten me a bit more performance, but it's hard to tell.

This can be your Mac, a Windows or Linux PC, or even an Android tablet, or iPhone (jailbreak needed to run Veency, the VNC server for iOS). I can easily do this with a PC using SSH with Tunneling and RealVNC Viewer. The VNC Server is the application running on the computer, or device, which screen is being shared. With the native setup, I figure I was getting about 1 sec from clicking on something to seeing the change on my screen. Hi I just want to know any VNC Viewer (Server is Linux, Client is Mac OS X) that can view a Linux machine from a Mac. Running in "Full Screen" mode with "Adaptive Quality". First, my situation: Near computer (the one Im sitting at): iMac 20'. Ive gotten around it, as described below. VNC From Windows to OS X Screen Sharing is Slow. To setup the server go to Preferences->Sharing and check the On checkbox next to Screen Sharing. OS X has a built in VNC (Screen Sharing) server, but it is a little known feature that it also has a built in VNC client.

I use tightVNC with my raspberry pi home automation system, and my work PC, and they work fine. I have tried all the settings on tightVNC to get it to go faster or do some kind of compression, but the settings don't seem to do anything. I have tried other VNC clients on my PC, they are all also slow, and I haven't been able to get any other VNC servers to work at all on the mac. The framerate is usually less than 1 FPS, although sometimes for brief spurts I can get a decent framerate, but only for a fraction of a second. I use the built in VNC server in the mac mini to use a tightVNC on my PC. It's not that I don't like macs, it's just that I already have thousands sunk into hardware and software for my PC. I bought it to compile my game for iOS, and don't use it for anything else.
